Mental Health & Wellbeing

Defining Mental Health

Mental Health is “the emotional and spiritual resilience which enables us to enjoy life and survive pain, suffering and disappointment. It is a positive sense of wellbeing and an underlying belief in our and others dignity and worth. It is influenced by our experience and our genetic inheritance.” (World Health Organisation)

Mental health affects all aspects of life and behaviour.

Mental Health and Wellbeing promotes school success and improvements by:

  • Promoting positive mental and emotional wellbeing by providing information and support.
  • Creating a shared understanding of all aspects of mental health
  • Enabling those with mental health related issues to self disclose and seek support in a safe confidential manner.
  • Offering guidance and strategies to support pupils and staff to be mentally healthy
  • Creating a culture to support and maintain positive mental health and wellbeing.

If you have any concerns, worries or questions about your child's mental health or wellbeing, please speak your child's class teacher in the first instance or ask to speak to a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the SENCo or the Inclusion Manager.

Mental Health Award

We are proud to have been awarded the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools ‘School Mental Health Award’ at Gold Status.  This showcases all the hard work, dedication and support from our school staff, pupils, parents and community to provide an emotionally healthy environment for all.

The Department for Education recognises the direct link between positive mental health in schools and successful educational outcomes; the Mental Health Award for Schools builds on this link and provides a framework for educational institutions to evidence policies and initiatives that work towards improving emotional health and wellbeing for both staff and pupils.

Helping Support the Mental Health of Children and Young People
NHS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland has commissioned DHU Healthcare to provide a new self-referral website to support the mental health of children and young people (CYP) living in Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland.  The website, developed with input from young people likely to use the site, is now live at myselfreferral-llr.nhs.uk to help under 18s, their parents or carers find the right mental health information and support, including the option to complete a self-referral.  There is also an attachment for the self referral below (self referral poster), with a QR code for access.
