A part of the Spark Arts Festival in Leicester City, our Year 4 pupils recently took part in a 10-week project with the local poet Owen Craven-Griffiths. Owen taught the children about a variety of poetry styles and techniques. The children worked together in small groups over several weeks to write their own poems.
Some of our Year 4 children took part in an 'Ultimate Frisbee' event this afternoon at Soar Valley College🥏We are pleased to announce that our children came 3rd in the tournament and had a thoroughly enjoyable time 🏆Well done Year 4!
Our Nursery children have been working hard on their number skills this week 🔢 The children have been learning to count accurately to 10 and recognise the numbers in a variety of activities 🧮 Well done Oak class!
It is World Book Day this week and the children in Year 2 have started to learn about their new book 'The Magic Paintbrush' which is set in China. The children thought about the question 'What would you paint if you had a magic paintbrush?' 🖌️
In Reception the children have enjoyed learning about their new story 'Jasper's Beanstalk.' The children have created their own representation of the beanstalk using a variety of materials. They have also made a prediction about what they thought might be at the top of the beanstalk and produced some fabulous writing! Well done Reception!
In Science our Year 5 children have been learning about the Solar System. The children created their own models of the different planets whilst using a variety of materials.
Since Great Britain's Olympic win in the curling last week, Mr Southall has been keen to teach the children during his P.E. sessions. This week the Year 1 and 2 children enjoyed their first curling session. The children were learning how to focus and be accurate with their roll at the same time.
In Cooking this week our Year 1 and 2 children used a variety of ingredients in techniques to create their own pizza flatbreads. The children were able to create their own toppings based on their interests.
In Year 1 the children have been learning about and creating their own postcards based on their Geography learning on 'Bright Lights Big City.' Over the last few weeks the children have been learning about our local area and the landmarks that are popular in Leicester.
The children used their knowledge to support them in writing their own postcard, pretending that they were on holiday in Leicester.
I am sure you will agree the Year 1 children have been working so hard on their writing!
Over the last 10 weeks our Year 4 children have been working closely with the poet Owen Griffiths. Across the ten sessions Owen has taught the children about a range of poetry styles and a range of poetry techniques.
In small groups the children composed and wrote their own poems. Before half-term the children had the opportunity to perform their poems to a Judges panel at the Y theatre in Leicester.
