Beech Class, Support Base (IAP)
Support Base Provision (IAP - Internal Alternative Provision)
Our Support Base is our internal alternative provision (IAP), designed to provide additional support for pupils whose needs cannot always be fully met within a mainstream classroom environment.

The Support Base offers a nurturing, inclusive and structured environment where children can receive personalised support to help them regulate, engage with learning and develop the skills needed to access school successfully. It is intended to meet a range of needs and may be used for pupils who:
- Are experiencing difficulties managing within a mainstream classroom for short or longer periods of time.
- Are awaiting assessment, placement or transition to a Specialist Support Base (DSP) or Special School.
- Require targeted interventions delivered in a smaller group setting.
- Need additional support for their social, emotional, communication or sensory needs.
- Benefit from learning experiences and resources that are not typically available within the mainstream classroom.

The Support Base provides access to a range of specialist resources and activities that promote engagement, wellbeing and development. These may include:
- Sensory activities and sensory regulation support.
- Soft play and movement-based activities.
- Small group or individual interventions.
- Emotional wellbeing and social skills support.
- Structured learning opportunities tailored to individual needs.
- Programmes designed to develop independence, communication and self-regulation skills.

Placement within the Support Base is carefully considered and is not a separate school provision. Pupils remain part of their class and school community, with support tailored to their individual needs. The aim is always to help children develop the confidence, skills and resilience required to access learning and achieve success.
Admission to the Support Base is coordinated by the SENCo and Assistant SENCo in consultation with class teachers, parents/carers and, where appropriate, external professionals. Decisions are based on an individual child's needs and are regularly reviewed to ensure the provision remains appropriate and effective.

Our Support Base reflects our commitment to ensuring every child receives the right support at the right time, enabling them to thrive both academically and emotionally.
