Physical Education

"Keeping kids active is more important than elite sport." Sir Mo Farah

At Rushey Mead Primary School, we hope for all children to feel as passionately about PE and physical activity as we do.  We aim to inspire a lifelong love of sport amongst all our pupils and provide them with the foundational sporting skills which will allow them to thrive during competitive sport in future life.  We believe sport and physical activity is for everyone and our goal is to help children fall in love with it. Not just for their physical health, but for their social, mental and emotional wellbeing too.

"The strength of the team is each individual member.
The strength of each member is the team." Phil Jackson

In line with our Rushey Rules and Key Character Traits, we teach our children the values of respect and kindness and how, win or lose, treating teammates, the opposition and referees with dignity is a must. Within our sporting community, we also value each and every member of the team. Regardless of aptitude, each team member is valuable and has an important role in helping us perform to the best of our ability. We teach our pupils that we are most successful in life and in sport, when we work together.

Our PE subject leaders are

Mr I Allen

We have been recognised for our commitment to PE by being awarded with the School Games Gold Award!

Beat the Street

Beat the Street turns towns into giant games. Earn points, win prizes and discover more about your area by walking, running and cycling. At Rushey Mead, we always take part and encourage our children to be active in the local area.

We came 4th in the whole of North East Leicester!

Daily Dash

In addition to our PE lessons, children at Rushey Mead do a Daily Dash every day on our all-weather track! The Daily Dash involves all the children running or walking a mile around our track.

Benefits of the Daily Dash:

For more information about the benefits of the Daily Dash, please see the document below 'Benefits of Physical Activity - How The Daily Mile Can Help?'

Sportswear

As a school we value the unity of a team and understand that some of the sense of belonging comes from wearing the same uniform or kit. We have invested in matching t-shirts for our children to borrow and wear when they take part in sports events and competitions.

These tops are also available to purchase should you want one to keep or wear for PE. If you would like to buy one for your child, follow the link below.
